We made an early morning visit to Vikingsholm, one of Tahoes prime tourist attractions, in order to avoid the crowds.
Its hard to drive east from San Francisco and not pass through Californias capital, Sacramento. On our way to the Sierras and Lake Tahoe we stopped in Sacramento and spent some time in its historic western Old town.

Not quite as beautified as Sacramentos old western town, Drytowns may be a little more ramshackle but also more authentic.
Still on the way to Lake Tahoe we stopped at tiny Calaveras State Park. It may be tiny, but its groves of sequoias are anything but small.
